How We Teach Maths at Kip McGrath Pontypridd
Maths can be a struggle for many children. It is common for children to say "I hate maths!" or "I'm just not good at maths". However, maths can be a lot of fun and it is our aim to help our students catch up and learn not to be scared of maths.
Learning maths is sometimes compared to building a block wall. You start with the foundations and build up a level at a time. If the foundations are solid, you can keep building in confidence to the level you need to get to. However, if there are any gaps in the foundations or middle layers, you can only reach a certain level before you can't build any higher. If a child has failed to grasp certain maths concepts in the early or middle years, gaps in learning occur and, by the time they reach the faster moving pace of High School maths, cracks begin to form and they struggle to keep up in class.
As qualified local classroom teachers, we know the maths curriculum and will identify specific areas of weakness or gaps in learning that may have developed. We prepare an individual learning programme that is tailor made for each pupil to focus on reteaching specific and important maths concepts to help them catch up and keep up in school. A little homework will be provided each week to help reinforce the lesson being taught.
